Mouthwatering Mondays: Perfect Protein Breakfast Smoothie
My breakfast usually consists of a GIGANTIC green smoothie. The kind of green smoothie that makes my work colleagues query my sanity and ask a whole bunch of questions about my lifestyle and my choices which I’m always more than happy to answer. The conversations usually look a little something like this…
Curious gal: Why do you drink that weird looking goo every day?
Me: Read our ‘About’ page, and ask me again at 3pm when you are about to partake in another siesta under your desk
Someone else: So, what’s in that snot-looking concoction you have there?
Me: What isn’t in it?! Seriously though, I’m not sure… my stay-at-home husband makes my food for me. What I DO know about it is that it’s super healthy & nourishes the crap out of me.
Another dude: Don’t you get sick of having the same ”stuff” for breakfast every day?
Me: Don’t you get sick of being sick every day? (said with a smiley face and a whole ‘lotta love of course!)
Ok, so that last one is harsh and doesn’t happen all that often. And no, I do not get sick of my smoothies because we have a different blend every day thanks to a little something I like to call ‘the seasons’. Though in saying that, every now and then I like to treat myself and so over the weekend I created this ultra delicious protein smoothie to chug down before I dove headfirst into my studies.
This recipe also came about after a request for a breakfast smoothie from one of our beautiful readers, Anna. Enjoy!
What you need:
Makes enough for two (want less? halve it )
4 tablespoons raw protein powder (my fav is: ‘Ezy Protein’ raw fermented rice in chocolate flavour)
2 cups almond milk
2 medium bananas
1/2 a ripe avocado
2 tablespoons cacao powder
2 teaspoons cacao nibs
1 – 2 tablespoons raw honey (adjust according to taste)
2 tablespoons coconut oil
6 ice cubes
2 tablespoons unhulled tahini
How to make:
Chuck everything into a blender
Blend until smooth and creamy
Enjoy answering questions as to why you are now drinking brown goo
