6 things I adore right now
By Candice Aiken.
I’m not one for using lame and cheesy office phrases such as ‘Mondayitus’ and ‘thank god it’s Friday’ (aka: TGIF) but here goes anyway because it’s just how I feel … HAPPY HUMP DAY! WOO HOO!! TFIW!! (I will let you guess what that stands for). Now, I don’t want to wish my life away, but I am SO happy about being on the other side of the week and just that inch closer to the weekend. I really do adore my weekends with my beautiful family, friends, fun and frolicking in nature!
I have a bit of a special post for you today which I am going to continue from time to time – possibly weekly, whenever it calls me. I discover so many amazing things, whether they are free like love and friendship (…nawwww) or something I need a bit of moolah for, either way I desperately want to share them all with you. So here are 6 things I absolutely adore right now (and you may too!):
1. Artisana Coconut Butter
When we recently decided to close our organic food co-op, it wasn’t a decision we made lightly, but we also didn’t waste any time. As a result, we ended up with quite a bit of food (even after our successful clearance sale). Out of all the items we had on sale, I was secretly hoping this jar of coconut butter would remain in our house and I was over-the-moon happy when it didn’t sell. I cracked this baby open the other day and oh…my…coconut…god, it was like there was a party in the jar and all the coconuts in the world were invited. Before you go thinking I’ve completely lost my mind over a simple jar of coconut oil, you are mistaken my friend. This ‘aint no standard coconut oil! Artisana have cleverly blended up coconut flesh AND the oil to create what can only be described as my favourite product on this earth. Though I can be found digging this stuff right out of the jar, I am also impartial to a bit of spreading over organic sourdough toast. Nom nom nom.
2. Sleeping in… z z z z
I have really struggled with getting my ass out of bed lately. It could be due to the fact that I’ve been really sick the past week after some epic life changes (if there’s such a thing as ‘monster man flu’ – which is a hundred times worse than man flu, then I appear to have had it). Another reason I have found it hard to get out of bed is because our winter has brought about some seriously cold mornings and my little body has been dying for a sleep in. As of last weekend, I am ever so pleased to have Sunday morning sleep in’s back, so for 2 out of 7 days, I will be allowing myself to sleep for as long as I need… no alarms and NO ‘snooze’ buttons. ***BLISS*** Note: “Sleep in” means when my dog, Mika, decides she wants to be fed, which is usually around 7:30am – though anything is better than getting up at 5:30am on a Sunday!
3. Learning ♥
At the beginning of this year, I enrolled at a local college to study naturopathy and nutritional medicine part-time for 4+ years. At the time, it was ideal for my situation and fit in well with my serious learning addiction, though somehow I managed to overlook the whole ‘4 years later I will be qualified’ thing. I suppose that I was so bursting at the seams with excitement, 4 years seemed like such a short amount of time. It was only when I got into the nitty gritty of the courses that I realized they really weren’t for me. I began questioning a lot of what I was being taught and my intuition got the better of me (oh, and it kicked in that 4 years is actually a REALLY LONG TIME). So, I have since transitioned out of that course and into another… yippee! I am super proud to announce that I am now studying holistic health coaching at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition based in New York. I have been wanting to study with IIN for YEARS but never made the plunge (for reasons I can no longer remember). I’m pleased to say that this really was the best decision for me as I freaking LOVE learning in every way, shape and form but I will not need to wait 4 years in order to begin helping people turn their lives around.
4. Having a stay-at-home husbo
You may have read from Curtis’ post a while back that he quit his job and is now a full time writer, student of NLP and coach (so proud of him!). Unfortunately, I am still working full time (my own decision really), so that means I miss out on the midday sun-baking sessions, afternoon siestas and snuggling with the pups. Ok, so that’s not all Curtis does during the day (just SOME days
)! A word of warning before I continue… I am about to seriously dote on my stay-at-home husbo. Ok, I warned you. So I got home Monday night after a pretty intense day at work and not only were the dishes washed and dried, but the washing hung up (usually my job because I have clothes that require re-stretching back into shape… Witchery totally lied to me about their tshirts being wash and wear!) and the house was absolutely spotless. I was already in a blissful state but then I discovered little love notes around the house and an inspiring quote stuck to my laptop. ♥♥♥ Awww ♥♥♥ Then tonight, same story… got home after a full on day to dinner AND dessert (which were my acai berry balls recipe which he made even better than I ever have!). As much as I don’t like working full time, I am really enjoying having a stay-at-home husbo! Love you Curtis xxx. Ok.. doting over – for now
Have you got a special someone that spoils you?? Feel free to dote away in the comments below.
5. Wild Sister Magazine
I’ve had the recent pleasure in online meeting a seriously cool chica with a passion mission … Jen Saunders. She’s the creator of the incredible Wild Sister Magazine and Sisterhood which I’m honored to be a member of. These online mags are uber inspiring and packed full of change-your-life goodness, not to mention art that just jumps right out of the page and embraces you with a warm and loving hug (seriously, check those covers out – *talent alert* *talent alert*). Looking forward to getting all snuggled tonight and catching upon the latest issue.
But one more thing before I go…
6. Nurturing Nature retreats
A few weeks ago, I decided to take some very well deserved RnR to chillax and enjoy life as it should be. Something Curtis and I decided to do in my 9 days off was take advantage of the amazing winter we are having and completely immerse ourselves in nature for a day. We went up into the hills, in the middle of the bush and off the beaten track… tossed off our shoes, grounded with mother earth and basked in the warm winter’s sun. We nibbled on organic goodies made by yours truly, we laughed at ourselves and reminisced (ohhh the good ‘ol days of when we first met hehe), we energized our crystals and new addition to the family, our zeolite rock – and most importantly… we allowed ourselves for a few hours to just ‘BE’. It was such an incredible experience that we have promised ourselves at least one nature retreat each week (so far we have had 3 and they just keep getting better). Such a perfect way to really escape from computers, worry, stress, and distraction and be completely overcome with a deep sense of peace. Nature rules!!!

Hi Ally,
So glad to hear you are enjoying your experience here with us.
Yes, I started at IIN in July this year and ave been loving it. Took me 2 years to sign up! haha. I’ve been looking at it for so long but just didn’t feel that it was right until recently. I just wish that I had more time to focus on it as I am still working full time. Otherwise, I adore their philosophy and the teachers are second to none. The community is amazing and they teach you not only about diet theories but how to set up a business and how to be the best health coach. Feel free to send me a private message and we can chat about it further if you want more info? I’m more than happy to answer any questions. It’s always better to hear it from a current student.
mmmm… raw chocolate. I wouldn’t mind making some actually.
Love, Candice x
