Mouthwatering Mondays: Cold N Flu Juice Remedy
WOW, what an extremely cleansing few weeks we’ve had in the Aiken household! Our once plastic-filled pantry has now been completely replaced with glass to store our goodies, we have sold and given away TONS of household items we no longer use or have double of (seriously, who needs 2 juicers, 2 blenders, 2 dehydrators and 2 food processors?!), my wedding dress is FINALLY going online for another blushing bride to enjoy (wipe away a tear) and MOST IMPORTANTLY we made the decision to close our organic food co-op to focus on our other exciting ventures.
After ALL THAT, it was no surprise that on Saturday morning, I suddenly and very specifically NEEDED a freshly squeezed carrot/apple/ginger/celery juice. Not one to ignore my body’s intuitive cravings, I juiced away and only hours later noticed that my head became tight, my throat started to tickle, my nose blocked up and fatigue set in. It’s a pattern I’ve noticed over the years that when I cleanse and detox my life so much externally it’s almost inevitable that an internal cleanse will follow in the form of a cold or flu. Feeling a bit poopie still, but boy, is it great to get everything out!
I spent the whole day today giving my body exactly what it needed – A ton of rest, permission to whinge about coming down with the dreaded “MAN FLU” (it’s quite serious I hear and yes ladies CAN get it!) and of course my favourite remedy of all time… a big fat cold ‘n flu juice.
What you need:
6 large carrots (+ a few tops)
2 green apples, cored
4 celery stalks (+ leaves)
1 lemon or 2 limes (with a little bit of peel)
1 bunch of parsley
1 cm piece of ginger
2 small garlic cloves
Optional: 1 teaspoon spirulina powder (for a boost of antioxidants!)
How to make:
- Place all vegies & fruit through a juicer and juice away
- If using, stir through spirulina powder and enjoy while snuggled up in bed!
- When you are ready to face the world again, don’t forget to put your juice pulp on your compost heap
Serves 1 – 2 super snotty peeps
